There's a plugin I suggest you check out, called Lo-Fizer.

It allows you to simulate different types of weird noises/effects on a track. You can layer vinyl crackle, put a filter on the signal as if it were passed through various types of speakers, add a pitch flutter as if it were played on a cassette left out in the sun for 5 hours, all sorts of interesting things.

You could probably modulate those parameters and have a piece like this morph over time.

I noticed the solitary string instrument didn't really evolve that much, and there weren't other instruments layered on top to draw interest. That said, the vinyl + string combination sounded really cool.

Reminded me of RE4 a little bit. Pretty cool.

Reminds me of Philip Glass quite a bit.

Wish it went on a little longer. Maybe with some build-up, and/or layering of different instruments.

Groovy stuff though.

Interesting mix of tambres and tones and shit.

Really enjoyed this.

Flute sounded great.

Cool drums!

The bass sounds kinda computer-y. You could try playing with the eq to take out of those wacky mids.

I really enjoyed it. Kinda sudden ending, though.

My favorite element is the synth with that sliding portamento thing going on. It sounds so cool.

Really colorful.

dat bass at 1:00

I like the huge number of drum samples you got going on. I get kinda lazy with just a kick, snare and hat. Maybe I should mix it up once in a while.

Really cooooool track, enjoyed it a lot

Thanks, mate. My best friend said he agreed with every point you made when he listened to it. He said one of the things he learned from me is to use a large array of drum sounds. Although sometimes I need to cool down on using so many samples at once... I get too addicted, haha. Thanks for your complimentary comments. I appreciate it, man.

That part at 2:54 was crazy. That piano was killer. It's probably from that sound library you were telling me about earlier.

YOOO I bought a 4-track for recording cassettes. Still waiting for it to come in the mail. I'm gonna do a lot of bouncing with it, heehee.

fearing responds:

Cheeers dude! I remembered what you said about one of my older tracks, wishing it had some crazy solo on the outro, so that's what I did here haha. That piano sound is from a synth called Piano One, crazy good sound for a synth, fair play.

Sweeet man! it adds crazy amounts of layering opportunities and depth when you bounce shit back and forth to cassette. Looking forward to hearing what you do with it dude.

Love the sub bass. Drums sound cool. I like the pattern where it does that fake out thing where you think it's gonna be just snare but like 2 milliseconds later the kick comes in and my headnodding gets all thrown off, lol.

The synth thing at 0:47 -- I wish it was panned or something. At that point in the beat, it sounds like just about everything going on is dead center, and it would've been cool as hell if that one instrument was going crazy to contrast. Maybe if it had a slow phaser on it, or flanger or something.

That said, dig this track. Dig the chilly vibes. It sounds like a dude walking out of the arcade in New York in like January, or whenever it's cold as fuck up there.

BOULLIE responds:

Yeeeeah I see what you mean! I'll make it a point to work the space more next time

That was tight. Loved it.

Hook catchy as fuck.

Really like the drums you got going on here. Cool house feel going on. The chopping was well done.

Kmax responds:

Thanks, I really wanted a chilled out track lately. What better than to slow than with some good jazzy clips.

That part at 1:35 when the beat chilled out and you started whispering and shit was pretty dope. Whole part had a nice build to it. Digging this track.

kenhandra responds:

Thanks man

Dude I'd freak out if lil cuzzos were poking around on my computer -- find all my burp samples. Bout to make a beat out of burps entirely, haha. Aw sheeeit. I like that wah wah thing "you" got going on here. Some chill tony hawk sounding ish, man.

BOULLIE responds:

They caught me messing with the drumpad and the rest is history lol.

It's kinda hard for me to shoo those interested in production away. Especially since I don't know too many people in actuality who do it. I'm kinda hoping to be the one to buy them their first drumpads X)

Burps entirely? Sheeesh.... I often feel like I need some of what you're on. Your world must be so vibrant lol

I do music because I'm bored.
