Is that you singing? You sound like Daedelus. It sounds dope

xxxZigZagxxx responds:

Ya that’s me! Thank you v much, Daedelus is cool ^_^

I agree with 7t3v3n, it kinda reminds me of the more chill moments on that Cornelius album Point

xxxZigZagxxx responds:

This makes me happy too! But also I didn't know that album until you pointed it out, I had a quick scan over the songs and I really like the sounds produced in it. Hope you're having a good day, phospho :)

That drum pattern is bonkers. Love the strings, too.

B-RadGfromOV responds:

Thanks dude! Yeah most of the instrumentation and some drums were in place and Anjovi came thru with a killer groove idea and another sample. Came together nicely 😁

I wish the bass was more prominent. I like the weird pitch-shifting effects you use. You using a granulizer on the vocals, or is that just auto-tune stuff?

The chords at 1:13 were suuuuuuuuper cool

xxxZigZagxxx responds:

Thank you! <3

The vocals are 1 pitched down an octave, and 1 layer pitched up an octave.

Both have EQ, Auto-Tune (just in major key), Noise Gate, Reverb, Delay, Compressor, another Delay, Stereo Enhancer and then another EQ. I just add effects until it sounds good to me. ;)

Thanks for the note on the chords! That was a synth preset called "AT Rising Fog" on Serum using the pack "Dark Prairie". I just arpeggiated that.

You went loco with the tape stops, lmao. I think the beat's pretty cool. Were you going for a cloud rap sorta vibe?

slowfreq responds:

I was stealing every trick from the Acid Souljah playbook because I don't know how to rap lol

That's dope, reminds me of Prefuse 73 in like 2003. Textures are cool. I wish the snare had more oomph. Really cool beat.

B-RadGfromOV responds:

Thanks dog.

That song's rad. I love the way the guitar follows the vocals as the tempo fluctuates -- I'm guessing you recorded both at the same time? Sounds dope.

I'm wondering how the mix would sound if the panning was a little more extreme. I got the sense that guitar and vocals were both dead center. Maybe you could try that John Lennon ADR stuff to create the illusion everything's double-tracked.

Interesting choice at the end, singing the word "toward" like "too-word" -- I always thought that word was one syllable, but it sounded cool the way you sang it.

I dig that "moonlight won't reach your eyes" line, it puts a cool image in my head

B-RadGfromOV responds:

Yeah this is just one take playing and singing same time. I put a compressor on to oomph the volume a bit but didn't think to mess with anything else so it's just that single-mic centered sound.
Thanks for kind words man. I'm gonna try writin some more guitar/singing stuff.

I feel like I heard that sample in a Viper song... idk

I hear the cowbells, very nice. I like the bassline a lot, especially that quick motion it makes at 0:13. I like the volume on the snares but they sound a tad abrasive -- if you fiddled around with the EQ, that might smooth 'em out.

Cool beat!

slowfreq responds:

If you heard it in a Viper song then he stole it from me, cause I made it myself lol

My good headphones broke so I'm a bit hamstrung assessing the mix -- sounds good on 20 dollar Sony headphones -- but I dig the arrangement of sounds you got going here. I like the crash. Really like the piano. Like the touch of reverb on the clap.

I think the beat might be a little too busy for the bongoes to fit in nicely. Is the kick sidechaining them at all? That was the only thing I was iffy about here. Everything else I dig.

B-RadGfromOV responds:

Yeah I def didn't freak the bongoes like I should have. I just pushed it out cause it started going downhill

I like how that track turned out! I think if you were gonna let the beat ride at the end like that, you could've added some adlibs or something.

Did you add any reverb on your voice at all? I wasn't hearing much, which matches the beat pretty well. I remember the snare in that beat was super dry.

Either way, good stuff.

ggsevv responds:

Mannnn there was supposed to be a second verse from the homie....I eventually said fuck and decided to let the original play solo. I really like it, man. Lol

I do music because I'm bored.
