Delete button vanished? I feel for ya, bro. Yeah, the melody's kinda cool, actually, but it would benefit from a bombastic wall of sound. Bass, several layers of synths, etc. It's kinda cool, though.

Kherr responds:

Ever since I've released this demo of the track, I've fallen into a "writer's block" or so to speak... I can't figure out what to do with anything. I'm trying to get into producing beats for people to rap to, but I just can't get into the mindset for producing music. I can't even make my techno or chiptunes anymore either. I just feel so lost.

I appreciate the review, shows that people are finding my music still. :)

The sample/keyboards sound really cool. Pretty funky. I think the drums should be louder. Those low-pitched voices at 1:00 sound pretty cool. Seriously, though, I was waiting the entire song for the drums to kick in and they never really did. I mean, they're there, but I hardly hear them. I really want to nod my head to this, but it's kinda hard. Minor tweak, though. Everything else sounds cool. PS, I dig the electric guitar squeal.

Cool rapping, dude. I've probably played only like, half those games. If that. I should get on that. Thanks for using my beat.

I really dig the synths in this. My fav synth comes in at :32 - it has a lot of reverb and stuff on it. 1:17 has nice chords. I like the whole stacking approach. I'm not so crazy about the synth at 2:16. It just sounds kinda hokey, and the staccato chords don't help it. But there's cool melodies throughout. My biggest beef is the drums, they're kinda squishy. Some harder drums would make this thing knock. Everything else is great. FAV PART: 3:41. REALLY COOL there.

GrantBowtie responds:

Thanks, ya I totally agree on the drums, so I uploaded a new file. Had some CPU issues on this one. Thanks for the detailed review.

Damn. This definitely sounds like something off Special Herbs and Spices. I liked how you played the sample in the beginning untouched, so we could hear what it sounded like originally, and THEN preceded to chop it up. I think J Dilla did that on Don't Cry. It's nice, it illustrates your process. The drums sound really old school. I think they could sound a little more exciting if you varied the velocity pattern on the hats. They just kinda tick tick tick tick, and I think you could do more with those. Otherwise, this beat is bloody great. Nice chopping. Where's it from anyway?

The Colorado Trail by Dave Grusin
I'll definitely do a little bit more tweaking with it,
thanks man

Vocals are a little out of tune, but fuck it, harmonies sound super sick. Beat's not bad. Whole thing's kinda nifty.

patrickliberty responds:

kewl!!! (^-^)

The reversed keyboards sound so surreal. The modulation every couple bars worked, too. The drums are perfect - they have that crunch to them. I think the bassline could pop out a bit more. Otherwise, real nice.

ThaKidd responds:

Since I made it a cypher style beat, I had to keep the main part the same. That means I have to switch it up some other way so it won't get repetitive but not to much because it's only a cypher and I'll be doing too much..it's a process. But I agree with you about the bassline, I'll go back back and enhance it more

Way cool. What exactly is assembly language? My friend from school was talking about a computer architecture class where he wrote gates in assembly language, and I asked him how much code he wrote and he said he didn't write any code at all. So I was pretty confused. Really nice loop you got there, it sounds super cool.

This would be cool for a horror movie. Or a tense thriller. Oh, and joke's on you: you told me if I stopped listening after 15 seconds I'd have "good taste" in music, but instead I skipped around the whole thing. Haha. Keep experimenting, man - see where you end up!

Haha, this reminds me of the club scene in Deus Ex. The first one, not Human Revolution. I was bummed playing that part because I couldn't dance with the chicks, they just kept making me buy them beer. The part at 1:36 is a cool switch up. I like this quite a lot, actually.

I do music because I'm bored.
