This is excellent. Those vibe things sound like Curtis Mayfield. Dig it. Drums are great, too.

I'm pretty sure those aren't my drums, but I recognize the guitar and little moments where the beatbox sticks out. The way you're modulating the chord progression sounds really cool and Jurassic 5-ish. Nice bassline too - I don't remember that in there, either. Did you eq out the low frequencies on the beatbox to make it sound like hi-hats? Whatever you did, it's working.

NUMBER 2! I'm impressed both sound so different from each other. Is that a voice in there? I remember my track was guitar and beatbox exclusively, but something in there sounds like a voice. The reverse effect sounds cool as fuck.

Whoooooa shit, dude. Did you sample it? Cause if you did, you really flipped it. I can barely recognize it. It sounds really cool though. I dig it. You use flanger in the track? Or was that me originally?

ThaKidd responds:

Of course I sampled it, I can tell you where the samples are, but that'll take all the fun out.
HINT: play with the key and tempo a little bit, you'll find it :)

Reminds me of Ariel Pink. Real smooth vocals. At :37 the guitar's a little too loud and the drums sound kinda MIDI and inconsistent with the drum sounds you used in the first part of the track. BUT the track is very interesting. Cool as fuck, actually. I dig it.

IIPhase responds:

I combined real drum sounds with electronic samples. It might sound midi to you because of that but it was the combination i was aiming for.
In the rhythm there is a bass guitar with a tap delay that gives about the same effect as Kiss from Prince. And i really liked that!
The guitar was my pain mixing it in lower made it loose presence a bit.

The filter sweep at the start was crafty. I like the way you're chopping the sample. You have some cool melody/chord progression coming out of it. I think some different drums would fit the beat better, though. The sample sounds soul but the drums sound funk - they're kinda harsh and rough. Some smoother, more 9th wonder kinda drums might work. Otherwise, I liked it. Kinda minimalist, albeit kinda cool.

blakeglobe responds:

yeah thanks man its a short one too

What's that called? Pizzicato? That plucky thing on the strings? Cool shit. I could do with less fuzz though. And I like your voice. You have the perfect nerdy academic black guy voice.

Panning the kick was a strange choice. I think you went a little apeshit with the high hats - they sound kinda robotic. Mix up the velocities a bit. The kick/snare pattern is cool. The synths are quite good.

Those horns scream CoFlow. Love the drums. Whole thing's real dusty.

B-RadGfromOV responds:

DUSTY? WHAT? I'll take that as a compliment lol. glad you like them drums. also what is coflow?

Seriously love those drums. The synth's chord progression is real trippy. That other synth, the kinda 8-bit sounding thing could be a little more percussive. It sounds like it's just copying the other notes that the other synth is playing, but with a rhythm instead of a drone. If there was an instrument with more of a pop to it, I think it might work better. All the other sounds work though, they sound really cool. BTW I have new tracks up, one of them has a guitar solo.

I do music because I'm bored.
