I really really like this. I like the flutter that flute does. I had no idea you made ambient music, let alone it was your forte! Damn, dude. I'd love to hear more stuff like this!

Shredator responds:

Thanks, i very appreciate this!

Damn, I love the keyboards and the chord progression. There's this odd contrast between the snare and the keyboards though - like, there's no reverb on the piano, but the snare does reverberate. It's got an inconsistent space, you know? Try messing around with the reverb on all the instruments so it sounds like all these sounds are coming from the same room. The kick sounds fine, though. Cool drum pattern. In the recording, your voice sounds a little nasally, but with EQ that's a quick fix. I forget the frequency range, but it's in the mids somewhere. Cutting that back will make your voice sound a little better. Cool song, I like it!

Wolfie responds:

You give real in-depth reviews, phosphorus, real technical stuff. I appreciate that. I'll get on making these adjustmentss right away. Thanks!

I really like when the kick comes in. It seems like the volume of everything else drops when the kick happens, like a gate or something. It sounds cool. What synths did you use? They sound cool as hell. Are they analogue or plugins?

Bobeo responds:

Thank you sir.

The kick thing is sidechaining, quite a useful tool.
The bass was made in nexus it's just two presets playing together.
And the synth is just a basic EQ'd SAW wave with tons of flanger added to it.

How exactly did your friend inspire you?
By the way, nice track. When the drums came in at 1:39, the thing really came together. Cool arrangements.

Ragezero responds:

Well she really loves the creepyness of horror. I was trying to make something new though, so I thought, what would be nice in this case. Also the name of the track came from a dnd character of hers, which is split in light and shadows. Therefor there is a distinct difference between the first part (shadow), second part (light), and the third part (battle music). Yet again, it all fades away in the end, as it should!

This is really cool. It's really rough around the edges, but it's grunge, so it works. I liked the slow build up to 1:18. I liked how the build ups led up to a crescendo and then the volume would die and there'd be a little bend wiggling in the background. It's great mood music. This would be good for a slow-motion bank robbery scene in a movie or something like that.
1:18 was a really cool switch up.
Hate to state the obvious, but this could benefit greatly from drums. Not shitty 808 drums, but a live drummer. That's the only thing I could imagine that would fit with the grunge theme. You do blues too? You'd play some killer blues. The only beef I have with this music is the riff's kinda just 4 notes played over and over. I'm sure there's some blues out there with crazy chord changes and lots of opportunity to improvise. That'd be cool to listen to.
The bass sounded really good.

Hexol94 responds:

Yeah sometimes I can get to repetitious in the moment...but thanks :P I think drums would be nice too.

Delete button vanished? I feel for ya, bro. Yeah, the melody's kinda cool, actually, but it would benefit from a bombastic wall of sound. Bass, several layers of synths, etc. It's kinda cool, though.

Kherr responds:

Ever since I've released this demo of the track, I've fallen into a "writer's block" or so to speak... I can't figure out what to do with anything. I'm trying to get into producing beats for people to rap to, but I just can't get into the mindset for producing music. I can't even make my techno or chiptunes anymore either. I just feel so lost.

I appreciate the review, shows that people are finding my music still. :)

I really dig the synths in this. My fav synth comes in at :32 - it has a lot of reverb and stuff on it. 1:17 has nice chords. I like the whole stacking approach. I'm not so crazy about the synth at 2:16. It just sounds kinda hokey, and the staccato chords don't help it. But there's cool melodies throughout. My biggest beef is the drums, they're kinda squishy. Some harder drums would make this thing knock. Everything else is great. FAV PART: 3:41. REALLY COOL there.

GrantBowtie responds:

Thanks, ya I totally agree on the drums, so I uploaded a new file. Had some CPU issues on this one. Thanks for the detailed review.

Damn. This definitely sounds like something off Special Herbs and Spices. I liked how you played the sample in the beginning untouched, so we could hear what it sounded like originally, and THEN preceded to chop it up. I think J Dilla did that on Don't Cry. It's nice, it illustrates your process. The drums sound really old school. I think they could sound a little more exciting if you varied the velocity pattern on the hats. They just kinda tick tick tick tick, and I think you could do more with those. Otherwise, this beat is bloody great. Nice chopping. Where's it from anyway?

ThaKidd responds:

The Colorado Trail by Dave Grusin
I'll definitely do a little bit more tweaking with it,
thanks man

Vocals are a little out of tune, but fuck it, harmonies sound super sick. Beat's not bad. Whole thing's kinda nifty.

patrickliberty responds:

kewl!!! (^-^)

The reversed keyboards sound so surreal. The modulation every couple bars worked, too. The drums are perfect - they have that crunch to them. I think the bassline could pop out a bit more. Otherwise, real nice.

ThaKidd responds:

Since I made it a cypher style beat, I had to keep the main part the same. That means I have to switch it up some other way so it won't get repetitive but not to much because it's only a cypher and I'll be doing too much..it's a process. But I agree with you about the bassline, I'll go back back and enhance it more

I do music because I'm bored.
