Noooo what will happen to my daily putzpie?

Did you chop up a recording of the "game over" music or a midi file of it? I was wondering how someone would chop a midi (sounds like a pain in the neck -- grab entire chords, slide them over, christ...) The chops sound good.

2:03's really harsh synth kinda took me out of the smooth ass vibe. Volume's a touch loud on it maybe?

I dug it though. The track's ending is dope.

putzpie responds:

It was an mp3 of the game over theme from super mario world, but don't worry there are more beats to come.

Not right away, but in the near future. I'm gonna try some rapping, so get ready to critique the shit out of me lol.

I really like your flow. Where did the beat come from? It's got really cool piano in it.

KeepingOnPoint responds:

Sorry for the delay on the comment as its very late, its talib qweli just to get by. I just used the instrumental.

I dig the synth chords at 0:49. I think they match the gritty drums you have going on a little better than the stringy pizzicato kinda stuff earlier in the beat.

Some of the drum rolls you have in the beat sound really cool, but I think they might sound a bit cooler if the drum sound stuck around a little longer, instead of instantly dissipating the way you have them. Maybe put more reverb on there too?

I'd also maybe play around with the EQ on the drums a bit more, they sound a little rough. I think there's a spot around 2k that if you cut it a bit, the snares/hats will sound a lot better.

I wasn't really a fan of the kick you used at 0:17. For that moment in the track, that's the very first time we hear anything in the low end. I'd try one of those big ass booming kicks that tail out until the snare hits.

Otherwise I like this track. I like what the strings are doing, especially in the intro, the two instruments have some interesting interplay.

Haha, I got lost in it and thought it was a 4 minute track. Nope, 27 second loop. It flows real well.

How do you do those scratches? This is the 2nd track I've heard them on, so I guess you have some sort of system for it...

The jingles/chimes in the drum beat give the track this psychedelic flair to it. The warm keyboard thing going on is great. I fucking love the swoosh in the first few seconds of the track.

I wouldn't mind this being fleshed out into a full track where the instruments drop in and out. That would be really soothing to listen to.

Xorberax responds:

Thanks :)
I make the scratches with FL Studio's FL Scratcher.

the 0:44 chop is really nice. Normally I stay away from guitar since it can be difficult to chop at times, but this shit sounds good. Invisible bass -- nice. If anything, I would've taken a crunchier snare instead of the clangy trash can thing you got going on, but otherwise this beat is dope.

putzpie responds:

This isn't really my usual sort of chop either tbh. A buddy of mine helped point me to the sample and he was like "yo can you flip it?" and I was like "yes I can" and it turned out nicely.

The snare was just part of the drum loop I sampled so I just left it, but yeah. Glad you dig it man.

This is great. I love the scratching. The low pass thing at the end of the loop made for a cool transition. Drums sound really good.

Xorberax responds:

Thanks!

The muffled talking under it is a nice touch. Got a middle eastern/Perfect Dark vibe out of it.

SICK vibraphones at 0:51.

WHAT is that string thing at 0:59??? It sounds badass. I want to use it. Has that old school Mass Effect 1 vibe to it.

putzpie responds:

Honestly I'm not even sure what the thing at 0:59 is, but it's a plugin I used for the song. I have it isolated in it's own .wav file if you want a sample of it, just pm me or some shit.

Glad you dig it though, I actually made this on my first weekly beats attempt and figured if I mastered it would sound sexy as shit so I just put it on this album because I didn't wanna remaster all the other tracks from the weekly beats compiation/album thing.

So thaaat's where that Nas track came from. Dig those plunky jazz bass notes.

putzpie responds:

Hell yeah man, glad you dig it. And yes, yes he did.

Loved that shit at 1:37

putzpie responds:

Hell yeah, I love that transition too man.

This is fucking dope. I feel like the bassline is a bit louder than it should be (or the drums are a bit too soft). Everything else that's going on, I really like. I'm a sucker for reverso shit.

putzpie responds:

So now I know that the beats of mine you don't post on will just be because they were so dope they blew your mind then.

Glad you dig it man lol, I was pretty proud of this one myself.

I do music because I'm bored.
