Some weird stuff you got there. I like the drums a lot, they sound really good. The vocals are fucking weird. I still can't make up my mind whether or not I like them. The Jingles have a nice melody/chord progression. This could go places.

xxxZigZagxxx responds:

LOL yeah I get weird sometimes when playing around. The vocals are a bit strange. I chopped up some guy saying "the first on the block", and just layered it over and over again. It might be a bit repetitive, because I put next to no effects on his voice :P Cheers bro

Pretty catchy. I love the production. The vocals remind me of Evil Nine.

Poniiboi responds:

Thanky. I'm gonna look up Evil Nine now.

Really nifty. Nice keyboards, really warm. Bass reminds me of Primus (if it's not as crazy as all the shit Claypool does). LOVED the guitar and flute that came in later. And the descending bassline chord progression or whatever it was. The two sections transitioned pretty seamlessly. I like this a lot. OOH, and vibraphones. I love vibraphones.

Sounds like DJ Shadow without the drums. Very nice. I like the guitar strum that came in halfway through a lot. Lots of neat little flourishes throughout.

jam7ie responds:

Not going to lie, I had to google who DJ Shadow is!
Thanks for the compliments. I thought it would be a waste to let this loop just sit on my computer doing nothing!
There are some nice little components that help build it up, thanks :)

I really liked when you had a drumroll line up with the gunshots. Quite clever. Whatever instrument you used for the bassline was really cool. It has a nice wobble to it, and not in a dubstep way, either. The drums sounded good. If anything, I'd just turn the bass down just a hair. I think it was just a bit loud. And I'd be careful about using copyrighted samples like that. I'm not entirely sure what ng's policy is on that. Otherwise, nice work.

deadfishfaces responds:

Thanks. I thought the bass was a bit loud myself. The bass line is from Prime Loops- Platinum Crunk Grooves 1: Bass Pure Sole 78bpm (I stretched it out from 32 to 64 beats). I try to keep everything above the table with all the tracks I put on here. My sources are listed and I am not making any money from this, so I think it's safe.

The breakdown at :53 is really cool. Lots of cool percussive sounds. Ominous, albeit relaxing strings. I think when you have the beat going at :13, some of the hats are a touch too loud. Also, whenever you use the same sample at the same velocity twice in a row, like with the open hat you used, it reminds me I'm listening to a drum machine instead of drums. Minor tweaks and you'll be golden there. It sounds pretty nice.

Linktrx responds:

Hey, thanks for the review man i appreciate it. I will have to go back and tweak that and a little compression on those hats would probably help the harshness too.

In harmonies, avoid parallel 4ths and 5ths - unless you wish to evoke the renaissance. The bassline was EXTREMELY repetitive. Your drums should be louder. I'd go back over it with more instruments, add more stuff to it. A melody, perhaps?

This would be great if it had a kick. Like, a KICK. Right now, I'm not feeling much bass out of it. Not just bass, like Nick^4 said, but oomph, too. It's kinda hard to nod my head along. However, the instrumentation is really good. I like the g-funk synth (you got that effect with portamento? How'd you get it?) and the whole thing screams Malibu. Real nice.

I think you set up a really cool atmosphere with this, but you ran into some technical hangups. Mostly involving drums. I think the drums are compressed way too much. I can tell by the way the snare goes BOOSH after the hit. The hats are really annoying because 1) they're too loud and 2) they're panned all the way out. Some EQ on those hats wouldn't hurt either. The synths sound cool as hell though. The breakdown at 1:28 is fucking great. Whole thing reminds me of the soundtrack to Machinarium. Fix up the drums and we'd be in business.

vai90 responds:

Certainly agree on the drums, glad the breakdown came out well. Thx a lot for the Machinarium comparison! Sweet game. x)

Wow, this is pretty subdued for fight music. I like it though. I like that clinky rhodes keyboard a lot. I think the synth you used for the melody was a bit overkill, though - it didn't quite match with the instruments you used previously, and it was just a bit loud. At 1:22, what is that? A guitar synth? I'm really curious, it has a distinctive sound to it. The drums kinda bug me - they don't really go hard enough for a fight track. The whole track almost sounded like a MIDI because of those drums. I'd recommend using different drum sounds. It's evident you varied the velocity pattern of the drum hits (based on :57) which is a good instinct. Keep tweaking it, eh? See what comes out of it.

I do music because I'm bored.
