The vocals that come in at :42 are superb. The way the voice sounds at :46 especially. Really cool notes. The cowbell thing reminds me of Aphex Twin from back in 92-ish. Thing is mixed really well. This is really nifty stuff right here.

I love the thing the low string does at :22. Those high string things at the beginning remind me of that Radiohead song How to Disappear Completely. I DIG the piano note at :29 (that really dissonant note), within the context of the melody. It's so weird and unpredictable, yet cool. I'm curious as to why you chose the accordion. As soon as it left at :46, the mood of the piece COMPLETELY changed, and I feel like all the other instruments want to go somewhere and the accordion won't let them. There's this tense dynamic between them that bugs me, but it's your call what to do with the piece. Otherwise, the scoring is dope. You certainly have a knack for this kind of thing.

bearskin responds:

Thanks for the helpful review! That's one of my favorite Radiohead songs, though I didn't intentionally borrow from it. I had been playing around with this motif on the piano for a while and when I suddenly decided to make something out of it, I wanted a different sound than the piano. I like the tension the accordion creates for what I'm trying to get across with this piece, but I might consider doing something different with the theme in the future. Thank you for your kind words.

Dammit, man. The melody is fucking great, but I think you could've chosen a better instrument for it. My problem is, it sounds good with the long drawn out notes, but when the string tries to do those quick notes, it spends too much time on the attack to convey the note and the melody falls behind the song. You fixed this problem when you got the piano to take up the melody. Otherwise, though - jesus, this was a great track. Could definitely see it score a film or something.

bearskin responds:

Thanks! This was my first track with Logic Pro, so it could definitely use some work. I've been wanting to do a solo piano version of this for a while, and I will definitely get to it at some point.

Really like the sound of the drums. Kinda funky, actually. Funky guitar playing, too. Are you playing all the instruments or is someone backing you? Oh, and is there a bassline? I can't really tell. Again, nice vocals. I take it that's the mandolin around 1:55. The bridge sounded cool. Mandolin SOLO? Jesus, I thought you "recently started playing" it. Damn, dude.

Linktrx responds:

There isn't a baseline haha i was hoping people wouldn't notice but the guitar is tuned low so i kinda hoped that would substitute or compensate at least! I dont have a bass and my midi controller died recently so no keyboard bass synth (it doesn't sound very good anyway). I play all the instruments yes although the drums are samples haha so besides that! I did only start playing mandolin recently sort of on and off for the past month but thank you im glad it was impressive! Thanks so much for the review man :D

Quite lovely. How did you research the Moroccan influence? What kind of sources did you consult? Just curious. And the track was quite well mixed, too.

Step responds:

Thanks a lot! For research, basically Google was my friend, in particular to find this Moroccan-influenced song:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BVRxNOlxlFI&feature=related

That song has a main guitar-like instrument which seems to be used a lot in Moroccan songs, so I searched images and found out that the guitar was called an Oud. I happened to have an Oud in my library of samples so I used that!

Thanks again for the review.

Really good musicianship, man. Like the guys below me already said, there's some things off with the mixing. Volume levels, compression, EQ, all that could definitely benefit from another pass. Otherwise, song was nicely done. I really like the riff at :53.

unquietsky responds:

Thank you very much. I'm most likely going to remix it.

at :15 I love the quick little notes the synth does. That sounds cool as shit. Were you doing a filter sweep on the synth? It sounds nice. I like the quick little ratata tat thing with the hats, too. Though I bet you could add more stuff to it. A bassline, perhaps. I dunno.

Stone-Killa responds:

filter and a compressor but again no alot of effort lol

Could use some bass and heavier drums. Then it'd be pretty sweet.

Stone-Killa responds:

shit i did dis in like 5 min lol not alot of effort but ill keep dat in mind

Fucking love the synth at the beginning. I thought the drums would go harder. They're just kind of mushy. I was still nodding my head, though. Nicely done.

Blasphem-E responds:

Glad you liked it. And ya, I probably should have made the drums a bit heavier.

Really like the piano. Nifty chords. I like the part at :33 when the chords got all rhythmic or whatever. Now, um... shouldn't the kick have more bass? I might be wrong - I'm listening to this right now on shitty computer speakers, but I'm getting way more bassline than actual kick. Then when I heard the kick by itself, it sounded an octave or 2 too high, like more someone tapping their cheek with their finger than a KICK per se. Everything else worked really well though. You did a good job stacking stuff. That's why they call it house music, right? Stacking instruments like a house? I heard that somewhere.

I do music because I'm bored.
