1:25 to 1:33 was real elegant. The chord progressions flow well, but I think some of the chords themselves have voicings a little too low. There's this weird buzzy oscillation thing going on when two many low notes play on that synthesizer. Then again, it might be something you're going for. It has an interesting dystopian effect to it. I have a question: at this point, this batch of tracks you've made sounds like the soundtrack to a game that doesn't exist yet. What kind of game do you think it will be? I imagine you're envisioning something in your head when you write these tracks.

Calamaistr responds:

First off, i do always go for whatever i upload :)
Everything people wrote a review and talk about things that sound wrong and try to make me correct something i chuckle a bit so im glad you thought of it cause i never upload (atleast nothing recent) a work in wich theres a mistake i could easily fix, the oscillation is 100% intentional, i try to go for new sounds through synergy in 8bit all the time, since i work with a rather small amount of soundbits that i can only tweak minimally when i make chiptunes i have to combine some noises so they automatically start to conflict and create a new sound from it. Thats what i succeeded at in this track :)

As for the game, i can only post it in this section since there is no genre for this music, if there was a general chiptune genre to select i would put it there :)
But maybe also so its easier for gamemakers to get inspired and want to use my music wich has happened more than once mind you :)

What i invisioned is pretty much what i tried to write down in opera form, afterall this is a 8bit opera about my idea of what would happen if all electornics would become sentient, this idea started naturally with the album 'the machine', i elaborated on it in 'back to the machine', this last album 'dream of the machine' is more about the waking of the machine and why the world went to hell because of the so called 'browser', the antagonist entity of the series.

thanks again.

(hope this helped)

Solid loop, man. I liked the way it climaxed at the end and seamlessly looped back to the beginning. Very coherent statement. The staccato notes at :33 are an interesting choice. Loved the last 3 chords around 1:01. Great use of panning, too, although panning the bassline at around :54 struck me as kinda odd. Solid work all around though.

Calamaistr responds:

Love the staccato, came to me by suprise trying something else initially so left it in. Gotta love how the best stuff comes with a whiff of luck. (like my closing piece wich is already 99% done, but putted it on a shelve till i finish the other tracks xD )

And about the progressions and their lines, yeah im a oddball. I am allergic to generic progressions, i sometimes finish a track and still change some basslines so the progression sounds more original ;)

Thanks for your review(s)

Intro sounds real cosmic - nice filter sweep, or whatever that was. Cool use of that crash around 0:50 (sounded like a crash, but sidechained or otherwise messed around with so it jumped around the drums). The piano is chopped real smoothly. I sorta wish the drum pattern was a bit more complicated, with more than kick, snare and hat, but at the same time, it was important to maintain the whole smooth quality of the track. Superb track, sounds like it was mixed with headphones in mind. Good shit.

DJDureagon responds:

im glad you like it. Im a simple guy when it comes to drums. Thanks for the feedback.

Smooth. Nice bassline. Cool flute part at 1:25. Whatever happened to the tracks that were labeled as "Metal" but basically turn into the Benny Hill theme to mess with people? That shit was hilarious.

Man, I didn't realize the track had such a martian vibe to it until you had that echo on your voice in the intro and it sounded like you were in space. It fit really well, though. I can't imagine it was an easy beat to rap over, since there was so much shit going on in the track. But alas, lots of big words and polysyllabic type shit. Good shit, man.

xxxZigZagxxx responds:

Thanks you're too kind. your beat helped make my voice sound better.

i wanted to go for a Shabazz Palaces kind of feel, but my voice is too wimpy. i wish i could have a good mc voice but i don't lol, so i make up for it with using silly effects like pitch-up and sidechained reverb/delay lol

thanks

Love the part at 0:28. Really elegant movement. 1:05 had some cool antiphony thing going on with the high and low voices echoing each other. I dig it.

Calamaistr responds:

Thank you, did you read the operatext on it too? :)

At 0:24 the melody had a really weird movement (wasn't expecting it to reach that high) but otherwise, I really dug the melody and chord progression. What synths did you use?

Calamaistr responds:

magical 8bit mostly, they are technically the most generic chip sounds i could find, i also have famiconchip and some more but i prefer the first every time, i do sometimes use other packs as second voices in the melody or to make little effects with though.

Damn, loved the moment when the choir came in. Great drum pattern too. Nice LFO on the synth. I liked that half step motion at 0:53. It sounded totally against the choir, but it had this man vs machine vibe to it which really worked. Reminds me of Scream Phoenix. Good shit.

Cheers bro :D

Oddly enough, the very first few seconds made me think of Futurama. That kinda leaned me into thinking "TV show" for the rest of the piece. It definitely seems like one of those opening titles kind of tracks for a "knights and dragons" type of show. Definitely sounds like you had fun making this. Oh, and I googled EWQL Symphony. 99 dollars?! You can sound that good for 99 dollars? If anyone finds a suitcase in the wild containing 200 grand, I hope it's you.

samulis responds:

Lol nah, that's the small version. I use Gold- it's about 200 or so.

The type of intro you heard is very common to many songs these days, cliche, if you will. I hear ya on the TV show thing... lol, I don't know why, but it sounds true to me, almost like a game show or something. XD

Thanks for listening! :)

I do music because I'm bored.
